Volunteer

This resource is run by neighbors helping neighbors.

Volunteer

Our community pantry, fridge, and website exist because neighbors step up to help neighbors. Volunteers keep this work alive by stewarding the pantry, picking up supplies, organizing food drives, packing meal kits at our Gather For Good events, and spreading the word through social media, hanging fliers, and local outreach.

Look over our volunteer roles below, and email to get involved!

Fridge Steward: (Estimated commitment: 30 mins/week)

As a Fridge Steward, you will help keep our community fridge and pantry clean, safe, and organized by conducting quick weekly check-ins. In this vital role, you will inspect inventory, remove expired items, and wipe down surfaces to ensure our neighbors always have access to fresh, safe food.

Community Food Ambassador: (Estimated commitment: 30 mins or less/week)

As a Community Food Ambassador, you will serve as a vital link between our food pantry and your local network by organizing regular food donation drives at your neighborhood, workplace, or organization. In this role, you will collect essential items from your community and deliver them directly to the pantry to help feed local families in need.

Neighborhood Promotions Captain: (Estimated commitment: 10-30 mins/week)

As a Neighborhood Promotions Captain, you will help us get the word out about our food pantry across your local community by hanging promotional flyers (provided to you) and sharing our social media posts in local online groups.

Volunteer Content Creator: (Estimated commitment: 30 mins to 1 hour/week)

I am looking for one Volunteer Content Creator who will help me tell our food pantry's story by drafting engaging, impactful posts for our social media platforms. In this role, you will create content that highlights our mission, promotes upcoming events and donation drives, and keeps our community informed and inspired to take action.

Volunteer Food Pickup Driver: (Estimated commitment: varies)

As a Volunteer Food Pickup Driver, you will ensure donated food reaches our pantry safely by picking up supplies from local donors, grocers, and community drives on a weekly or on-call basis. In this hands-on role, you will load, transport, and deliver essential items directly to the pantry, serving as a critical bridge between generous donors and local families in need. Our current need is a weekly Friday afternoon donation pickup at Salvation Army (Pomfret Street). More needs may arise.
